Hi Everyone,
This is my first post to keep everyone updated on what's going (wrong) I mean ON with me.
Thursday April 17th I went to a Health Fair/Blood Draw in Sundance and then by Friday afternoon received a call from the lab stating that I had high white blood count of 129,000 (normal is between 3000-11,000). Then received a call from the Doctor said that I need to get into a car start driving to Sioux Falls immediately. I asked if there was a hospital in Denver because that was where Coy and Jeff live, so at least I would have family close. Brian and I took off around 8:o0 headed to Denver, got to Coy's by 2:30 a.m and then left by 6 a.m. in the morning to the hospital. I was admitted and started the reduction of white blood cells immediately. They said my white blood cell count at that time 149,000, so that wasn't good. Then by the next morning I was at 34,000 and am now at 24,000. All the nurses are helpful. Mom is down here with me, so that is nice. The brothers, sister-in-laws, nephews and cousins have been coming and it has been great to see them.
I have recieved so much love and encouragment from my friends and family through e-mail and phone calls which is greatly appreciated, thanks again.
At 1:30p.m today I started my main chemotherapy (*THE BIG GUNS*), so far no side-affects from that which is a blessing for sure! I met a husband where his wife was admitted the same day and she will start chemo tomorrow. He wants me to meet her for support.
I will keep everyone posted on how everything goes on a daily basis if I can, AND I WILL!
THANKS AGAIN, I LOVE YOU ALL!
Brenda

I'm just thankful that you have such support from your family and friends. You sound like you are making big strides in getting your blood count down to normal. I hope that means that you will be able to go home sooner. You take care and know that we are thinking of you and getting daily reports from Leigh. Amy and Gus

Brenda,
ReplyDeleteYou sounded great when I talked to you from the Denver Airport and that is fantastic because attitude and keeping upbeat will get you through many tough times. If you need to talk, my ears, heart and soul are here for you. Let me know if you need anything and I will try and make it happen. Chin up and we will talk soon. Charlene
So how is it to have the nurses taking care of you? You are usually caring for everyone else. It is a humbling thing to have roles reversed like that. Dennis and I are here for you and the family. Oh, and so are Maggie, Ben,Nap,Craig, and Glen. Let us know what you need. Love ya, Dennis and Marlene
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda, I went to the health fair today to have my blood drawn and I felt like a celebrity. I told them what happened to you and the girl that drew your blood was there and she grabbed be by my arm and took me to her boss and had me tell her what happened. They said that they never get feedback from the lab on anything big like this so it meant so much to them that what there are doing really does help people. Roanna Johnson was the one that drew your blood and she remembered who you were because she wanted you to have the hemogram test and that is the one that shows the white blood count. They all are wishing you well and wanted to know your blog so you may be hearing from them. Hope you are having a good day and are feeling ok. Tell your Mom hi for me and I hope she is doing ok too. Amy

ReplyDeleteHey Tweet,
ReplyDeleteTried to call a couple of times, but as we can see from the photo...you are always on it. That's great. I hope you can feel the power of our prayers and know we care very much. You still look great and I'm glad your family is close to you. We just heard about Chicken yesterday and want to wish her well also. We love you and please know that if you need anything at all, we are here for you.
Lots of Love and Good Wishes,
Chad and Dee
Hi Brenda, just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you and hope you are still feeling well. Leigh keeps me informed everyday but it was nice for the update from Coy. I'm so glad for you that you have so much support there in Denver. I know that it is so hard for Leigh and Kirk to not be there as well. Leigh is getting over a cold but still has the cough and it is not worth the risk to you for them to come yet. Keep your chin up and know that you are in our prayers. Amy and Gus
ReplyDeleteHey you--thanks for the great gab, this a.m. I read your blog each day and usually check it twice. I don't write everyday, because I don't think I have anything very enlightening to say. I am glad that this blog keeps going. Isn't it amazing how many people you have touched with your daily living? It must be a most humbling experience. Well, I will be baking another dessert tonight. I love it that Brian thought he should eat some of the triple chocolate dessert bars, because YOU would want him too. Whata guy. Oh Alexis Engstrom said that when she was at St. Luke's she liked the Chai that they serve on the main floor. So maybe they have lattes!! Hey-- (II Corinthians 12:9) "And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Love ya, Marlene
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda, how's it going? So happy to hear they found matches for you, I tried but they sent my money back! Pretty sad when they don't even want your blood or marrow!!! Best wishes to ya....think about you often! Keep smilin! Jan Galloway
ReplyDeleteHey Girl!!!
ReplyDeleteKeep blogging. It's the best way for us to know how you are doing without having to rely on the ol' rumor mill.
So are you turning BLONDE or something. Locking yourself out sounds like something I would do!
It's a good thing you had someone there to let you in.
Well, not much here to talk about except Doug's wedding went on with a "hitch". Got lots of pictures and then Clint (Doug's oldest) got up with a band at the Ponderosa and blew us all away playing the lead guitar and sang "Go Johnny Go". It was fun, sorry you couldn't be there.
I think of you everyday, I just have been bad about not taking the time to blog. Sending up lots of prayers and you best wishes.
Are you dressing up for Halloween there?
Have a great weekend and I promise to write more later.
Lots of Love,
Chad and Dee

ReplyDeleteI see now that it was going the whole time, but I didn't think it was because my computer was giving me fits! I-D-10-T factor again, I guess.
Have a great weekend!!
